Chocolate. It’s smooth and silky and oh-so yummy. And at Easter time, it strangely tastes even better. Unfortunately, many of us can’t help but overindulge at this time of year. Which is ok. If you’re prepared to work it off, that is. Let’s see just what it takes…

For the sake of this exercise (forgive the pun), we’ll crunch the numbers based on an average man and woman.

Mr Average = 176cm tall and 85kg (5.7ft and 187lbs)
Ms Average = 165cm tall and 65kg (5.4ft and 143lbs)

The above timed work-outs are rounded to the nearest five minutes (in most cases) and are based on Bupa’s Energy Burned calculator.

Here are 5 tips to avoid the eggstra work-out!

  1. Eat dark chocolate – it’s better for you and has fewer kilojoules.
  2. Save eating the chocolate just for Easter Sunday – not over the two-month lead-up.
  3. Have an egg/bunny after you’ve eaten a meal – if you’re not hungry, you’re less likely to want to scoff.
  4. Buy Easter chocolate in smaller wrappings – it can be way too tempting to eat a whole chocolate bunny once you’ve broken through the foil rather than leave some for later. So, save the urge and opt for a small wrapped egg instead: you can happily eat the whole thing.
  5. Avoid chocolate eggs filled with creme or caramel etc – these will skyrocket your kilojoule intake.

So, do these stats scare you? Or are you happy to work harder for your Easter treats? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
